About us

In the beginning...
A group of friends and I were sitting and having dinner one night and started talking about the economy and how badly it has affected our town. One of the people at the table said "wouldn’t it be great if we could do something about it" and inspiration came over the group. Immediately we started throwing out ideas of what we could do to help, and let me tell you some of them were way off the wall. After several hours of conversation, the idea hit us – we would begin distributing gift baskets of food to those that are in need during the holiday seasons, and hopefully extend that to other times of year.

Keep in mind that this was only a few days prior to Thanksgiving in 2009, and we targeted to quickly feed 50 families for the coming holiday. The wheels of momentum took place, and our group scrambled to make this happen. We worked diligently to gather food and any type of donations that we could get from friends, family, and local grocery stores and then the hard part – to whom would receive the gift baskets. Getting names was one of the most challenging things that we had to overcome, and after several days, we hit the wall and were at a loss. Finally one of the people in the group mentioned we should contact a local charity and ask them for help – so I did. I contacted a great girl named Emily, and she was delighted to give us a list of families that were in absolute need of a miracle. The process was difficult, but I can tell you there is no greater feeling than walking up to someone’s front door with a gift basket of food and watching their children light up with thanks. The love that we received for such a simple act could never be replaced, and this is why we are "The Baskets of Hope"
